American Premiere of Winterberg works at the Music + Festival

October 18, 2016

The Music + Festival took place at University of Arizona this past weekend. One of the featured composers, Hans Winterberg, has a truly amazing story. Winterberg, a German Jew, was sent to a concentration camp in 1944. He was then forced into exile from his homeland of the Sudetenland because he had listed himself as German on an earlier census. His compositions were actually locked in a vault until recently, due to the work of Winterberg's grandson, who was present at the festival. All performances of his works were American Premieres. Here are small selections from the Suite for Clarinet and Piano and the Wind Quintet. We look forward to recording these works on a upcoming album of Winterberg's music which is in the works!
